Default End of 3/36 and extended warranty???

I have 33K miles on the Dak and the 36 months are about up, Just took it in for a final once over asking them to check out the front suspension and rough idle. They replaced both tierod ends, and left front wheel bearing, and flashed the PCM for the idle.

After seeing some of the other consistent problems people have been having, is an extended warranty worth it? It looks like about $1100 to take it to the 7/70 my power train has, and if the other bearing goes out or a balljount like superdak where it took out the control arm, it would almost pay for itself.

I am not a fan of extended warrantees but will probably keep the truck another 3 years as it has been prety good to me, your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,
LB

Just one thing to consider...

Any service work that you have done before your basic warranty expires is covered for one year from the date of that original service. So, even once your warranty expires, they have to cover any repairs up to one year.

My suggestion, get all your warranty problems fixed now and then you have at least some coverage for another year...free.

Can you afford it? Are you going to keep the truck long term? Do you like having that "piece of mind"? If so, it's probably worth it. But the problems with these trucks seem to be related to wear items like shocks, tie-rod ends, etc...that may not be covered anyway. Rough idle? Join the club. Get some iridum plugs and 93 octane, it should help.

trust me, get it. you would be suprised what the extended warrenty will cover. 1100.00 is pretty cheap. most of these trucks the rear end lets go, that alone will cost what the warrenty is. also if the tranny starts to slip or anything. its better to pay up frt now than get kicked in the butt later.

IMO they're not worth it. Most vehicles don't have any major problems before 100k miles. I've bought extended warranties at time of purchase on my last four vehicles; 2000 Sonata, 2002 Dakota, 2005 Dakota, 2005 Town & Country. I've had repairs on all of them between 36k and 70k, but the repairs wouldn't have cost as much as the warranty cost.
If insurance settlements equaled the premiums, insurance companies would be out of business.

I have always purchased the extended warranty on vehicles. Out of the last three purchased, two were never used, and the other one paid off big time. I will be buying the extended warranty on the Dak. Its like fire insurance, if you never use it, you wasted your money. If you do have a big claim, it pays off big time.
