Thanks guy. Guess I was hoping against hope. Went to an independent garage and he of course confirmed what you guys were telling me. I've dealt with the guy before and he said he would do all four for $150 out the door. I took him up on it.
I think you will be happier not to trouble with this front shocks that as I told you are not just a cup of tea to work with. And as Altair and other guys in the forum said, you really REALLY need to take the truck to an alignment shop after you have the new shocks, just to be safe and sure about proper alignment.
Even my dealer said it was hell to do these shocks. I had my factory shocks replaced at 25k under warranty. They brought it back to new damping and nothing more. When it comes time at around 40k I will have the ranchos installed.

That's not a bad deal, the front shocks are a huge pain to compress and get the springs off if you don't have a wall-mounted spring compressor.
By the time you add up everything to do it yourself; beer, pizza, spring compressors, not to mention the better part of a day to do it, more beer, etc, not bad.
Great post Rayzuli. I used a ball joint separator rented from AZ to pop off the upper control arm to gain access. And that shop should have the local news called on them. Can you imagine some poor, naive soul who knows nothing about this process removing the bolt that leads to sudden spring decompression Do you think a rouge spring could snap your neck?
