Hello all,
I am considering buying a 2006 Dakota and was wondering if there are any specific issues I should be aware of. I have found forums similar to this one very helpful to those weighing the pros and cons of different brands. I'm currently driving a 2000 Cherokee which is a good vehicle but I like the style and size of the Dakota. Any input is appreciated.

No worries man/woman... Welcome to the forum! I think most of theses guys and gals will give ya good input. The biggest problem I have seen and heard so far with the Daks, is the front shocks and the lack of aftermarket support. Knock on wood my trucks been OK, of course I am only at 13k too Then of course you get the occasional off the wall problems. IMO I don't think you will be dissatisfied with the truck. Are you going with the 3.7 or the 4.7? Let us know, we will help with any other question you have

Eric put it best...

I've had very very little problems with mine, just a couple fuses here and there... you don't beat on them and take care of them, you'll have it awhile.

everyone has hit the nail on the head... biggest complaints are the front suspension and lack of aftermarket support. My biggest issue is the stock cd player mines been replaced 3 times and still doenst work properly. So far so good mine has 33k and runs Great!

oh and I'd get the v8 4.7 instead of the 3,7 v6. the v6 get maybe 1-2 mpg better MAYBE I'm getting regularly 20 mpg highway. best was 21.9. plus you get al lil more power and more towing capability. good luck..

Not to be a downer. Mine is an '06. I love it now, but my 2nd owner "honeymoon" phase has been less than pleasant. Good thing I'm obcessed and knowledgeable. Shocks suck yes. Also be aware of worn tie-rod ends and sway bar links....they become victims of the shiddy stock shocks If you have vibration issues, NOT related to improperly balanced tires, you may need to look at TSB 05-002-06. Your engine will probably idle rough...they all see to...get iridium plugs. Gas mileage will also be poor.....but then again, all my problems seem to go away when I plant the right foot...HO HO HO Merry Christmas.
