Default ProComp E-Fan on eBay

Check this out -

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PROCO...1%7C240%3A1318

New ProComp 2500 CFM Puller fan for $25 +$11 shipping. Only draws 12.5 amps! I only see two issues with it -

1) It's shroudless
2) Only 1 speed

Any thoughts? Is the shroud a big deal?

I might just pick one of these up...

you use the factory shroud with that fan. also is there a sensor for the temp. or does it just stay on all the time?

I'd wire up a controller, something like studlyblueiz did in his e-fan writeup, probably with an analog gauge and manual on-off for backup.

Or I might not; poked around and learned some stuff about the viscous-clutch fans. Sounds like it might be more money and trouble than it's worth to swap, especially once you get up above city speeds.

Freeing up more than a couple HP sounds suspicious...let alone the "15 HP 30 FT LB!!" claims. Ever seen how much air a 5 or 10 HP fan can move?

Anyone swear by a noticable, worthwhile difference?

I've seen actual dyno numbers at my local performance shop on an '05 Hemi RCSB 4x2 that showed 18 RWHP with the addition of a Flex-a-Lite 180 Extreme fan.
Convinced me to get one. You can feel a better acceleration from a dead stop and I probably picked up about 1.5 mpg in fuel.
Nice benefit is here in the deep south, you get stuck in traffic and barely move, the constant 3300 cfm keeps you from overheating in that and off-road crawling situations.

No kidding...that's 5.2% at the wheels. Assuming the 3.7 benefits the same amount, that would push it over 220 at the crank. I'll have to look at the size of the fan in my friend's Hemi and compare...

I remember there was a member here awhile back who did an electric fan swap, flexalite I believe. He hand-calculated his mileage for a few tanks before and after and saw a noticeable improvement, 2 or so mpg if I remember correctly.

The big plastic thingy that goes from the back of the radiator to around your fan. Some remove it when they put in an e-fan for a clean look. Bad move, the shroud directs air flow and maximized cooling of the radiator...
