Default Shifter freaking broke- stuck in 1st!!

Well this is nice. I was in a parking lot and backed up to get to a parking space. When I put it in drive it made a crunch sound. I pulled into the spot and couldn't get it into park. I thought it was stuck so I moved it into 1st and then it just broke loose. The shifter is still attached but I can't change gears. I moved it to where park should be and the key came out. Truck won't start cause tranny is still in gear.

I'm waiting for the tow truck now. I'm towing it home in the hopes that I can fix it.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Edit:

Well, I got home and undid the steering column cover and can see the broken part. It's black plastic and looks like it has a metal core. It looks kind of like a wooden coffee stirrer. I have no idea what it's called, but it links the handle to some other part that looks expensive

I will try and get a picture of it tomorrow. I don't suppose that this would be covered under the 7/70 powertrain warranty. It does control the powertrain...sort of

Here's a picture of the part in question. It's the black part attached to the silver bracket in the center of the photo. It's hanging down from where it should be.

It is supposed to attach to the black part to the right of it- just above the red plug.

I'm having a hard time with the parts department without actually having the part. If anyone knows what it's called, please let me know. I will take it apart today, but since I work 8-5 everyday, it's going to be a PITA getting it to the dealer so they can figure it out.

You lost me... hehe That page was 270 I posted...

The page you gave me comes up with one of the transfer cases... and the PN is a hex bolt... I think we might have different books. This one is the books we had linked before the trouble broke loose... and they were taken down

I think it is that one based on the wording "shifter to cam". Thats the point i believe it would pivot on.

You probably are right...

Page 205! Again I have the page extracted from the Manual so I can send it email, if you want it reitman. The entire manual is huge... so I extracted the single page...
