Find out what 5 points is equal to in cash and compare it to other cards. I don't have one, I consider the cash value of the reward, with chase I know I am getting 3% cash back,

Yea I got approved for it today. I think it'd be cool to get free oil changes from it lo. I'm always good about paying my card off so I'm not worried about that, I always pay it off in time! I'm just interested in the oil change rewards. I'm interested in the Chase Freedom one that you talked about too. I was pre-approved for the Chase Platinum one the other day haha. I got it in the mail. I already have the Chase Plus1 Student Visa.

How old are you?

Getting worked up over a free oil change from a Credit Card?

Im not trying to be an *** or anything, but getting those rewards are worthless as others have mentioned... you can do your own oil change very cheap, you will probably have to spend 2000$+ to get the reward.. not worth it.

the APR rate is horrible... 11.99 and 10.99

Fixed low rates around 1-5% are your best bet, but due to the wonderful economy we have right now.. fixed low APRs are probably going to be a thing of the past.. I know a kid at my work that was bragging about his credit card.. i asked him how many he had.. he said 5, i asked him what the APRs where.. he didnt even know what APR was..

I just closed one of my chase credit cards, and now i only have 1. APR is 6.99% Variable i called them and had them lower it. since i had the old card for over 3 years and never missed a payment and always paid it off.

And watch out.. the first time you pay it off more then likley they will raise you limit once they see you are a legit person that pays bills.

and beleive me, when your broke and want some Fast Food or that soft drink, or that good deal on the website for your truck. You will be VERY tempted to use that CC for it and just say ahh ill pay it off. 2 years later its not paid off..

Also be careful with any Credit Cards Right now... due to banks taking a crap, alot of people not having money to pay on there cards, they are inbedding Fees and Charges to help them get out of the hole from all the dead beats not paying there bills.. so they charge you more! Its awesome!

Happened to my mom and dad.. 30+ years and have perfect credit, they paid off a a 20k credit card and closed it.. Chase tried SO hard to get them to keep it, after they closed it, Mom got a leater in the mail saying she will have to pay 5% every month on the current balance along with a monthly fee. Her CC is at about 12k due to Hospital makeovers... all women want to stay young.. so stupid, but ya they are charging her 5% of 12k EACH month... and they changed that at the beggining of this new wonderful year. A little letter a month before it happened told her about it... lol..

She chewed the bank out, and they actually said the reason was from the **** econmoy and people not be able to pay on the credit cards and claiming bank rup. So my mom has to pick up the slack...

/the end.. lol that was long. Hope i didnt scare you..

As User mentioned you should be careful with credit cards, especially right now. If you already have a Chase platinum, Chase student visa and you're getting the Dodge Rewards Visa as well I would not be looking at the Freedom if I were you. You already have too many credit cards. I have a Citi platinum and a Chase Freedom, the citi was my first card and after my card was stolen twice through a breach on Citi's part and their customer service handled the whole issue horribly the second time I stopped using it and applied for the Chase. The only reason I haven't closed the Citi card yet is for credit score reasons, sometimes closing a credit card if you haven't had it a certain length of time can affect your score. I don't buy anything with it though, one card only and I pay it off in full at the end of every month. If I ever screw up enough to reach a point where I can't pay it off in full I will take it out of my wallet and stop using it entirely till it's fully paid off then cancel the card. Going into debt with the credit card company is not a situation you want to be in and it is very easy to spend more than you plan to with one credit card, more than one will make it even harder to keep track of your spending.

i have 2 cards in my wallet (that i can buy stuff with) my visa debit card, and a discover student card, i keep track of everything that i spend in an excel sheet so that it is easy to see how much i have spent, and easy to make sure i have enough money to pay it off, if the number in the bank is getting close to the number on the cc then i stop buying stuff on it.

For the most part, people who hate credit cards usually don't pay the balance at the end of the month; they're paying interest on it every month. I have a credit card from chase, I get about 500-1k bucks in rewards every year. I have only paid a fee for $40 from chase 1 time, in the 5 years I've had the card; I might have paid interest for that month. I had my interest raised to 20% because I made my monthly payment too late;it posted the day after the due date- did not matter since I pay off my balance at the end of each month. After 2 months my interest went back down to 7.99%.

When you go buy a car or a house, they look at your credit history, length of accounts, balances etc... It's not wise to close all your cards at one time and it's not wise to close the oldest cards; this shows credit establishment/history. It's ok to have several credit cards, I would say 4-8 credit cards would be a decent amount; any more is over board.

If you intend to pay your balance at the end of every month, the interest rate is irrelevant because you will not be paying it-you value the rewards not the interest rate. You can call chase and ask them to switch you over to the chase freedom account; I think they have the best rewards.

An interesting fact is that vendors will actually pay more fees on credit purchases made by their customers if their customer's credit is bad. If you have good credit, the vendor will pay less- so I've been told.
