Smile Questions, questions, questions!

What is going on Dakota guys? Today, I plan on purchasing my sister a 2006 Dakota Sport SLT. It's a quad cab, has bed liner, after market stereo, wee bit bigger tires, and only 31,156 miles!! The dealers asking price is $14,000. My mom came along with me yesterday and got them to do $14,000 with tax, title, and license. Now, We're gonna try to knock it down some more. If we can't, I'm not sure if it'll be 100% sure that we're buying it. But I'm gonna try to do it since my sister needs a car now and she'll be headed to college after finishing off her senior year. Warranty left on the car is 3 year/75k. I've got some q's that need some a's:

Is this a good price to you guys? (It is to me)

What should I look for that has been giving you guys problems before I make the purchase final? (Gears? Tranny? Electronics?)

Would you Dakota owners still buy the Dakota if given the chance to re-do it again?

I have two 12" subwoofers that I wanna give to her. They are somewhat shallow (Rockford Fosgate P1's). Where can they be placed if that's even possible?

i'd say that might be a good price....maybe a little lower...who knows. KBB on my truck with 63K miles was between $13k and $14k in excellent condition. But I have a 2005 Laramie with the extra's available from Dodge.

You wanna check the brakes, check the suspension and ride comfort. Try to find some speed bumps or a small dirt field to test it out. drive up to about 60mph and stop not hard, but slow down as if you're exiting the freeway to tes tthe brakes.

And if I was given the chance to buy another dakota, would I? No...becaus ei'd upgrade to the 2500 Cummins :P...but if there was only the Dakota yes I would.

I check the KBB as well. It came out to $16,000. So the price does seem fair to me as well.

The brakes, suspension, and ride comfort was great!! My sister and I took it out for a spin yesterday. It has the get up and go too! I was surprised.

Good luck with the purchase. Nice brother you are! And would I buy another Dakota? Well in protest to the assinine US auto industry and the union that run it, probably not. But if I wasn't pissed off at Detroit and their business practices? Yes I would. The '08 has some nice upgrades from the 05-07's and it is the perfect size for me and my needs...not too big (Ram 2500) and not too small (Ford Ranger). I like the new 1500, but I still think it would be too big for my purposes.

They also had a brand new 2008 Dakota SLT black, quad cab for $22k. It looks way better in my opinion. My mom and I just got back from a different Dodge dealer and test drove a 2006 Chrysler 300C with only 12k on it for $22k. It also has nice big shiny rims, leather, and all available upgrades except a CD player. It has that cheap one. Yuck!! I'd buy it but for $16k with tax, title, and license. I'm not sure if I'm going to get that Dakota now... I wanna get that 300C and give my sister my mom's Honda CR-V and the 300C and the Ram are for my parents and I.

+1 to BadassRT's comment. Decent truck, no problems so far, but my next truck will be fullsize, 4WD and without spark plugs.

I would buy another one, my truck's given me a few problems with the front end (shocks and one ball joint) other than that it's been great. I'm assuming the Dakota you're looking at is a V8? If you're looking at the 2008 also one thing to know is that they increased the hp and torque on the 2008 4.7l by a good bit as well as a small MPG increase. I'd imagine you may be able to squeeze the subs under the rear seat, that's just a guess though as I have a club cab not the quad.
