Default Check engine light and gascap problem...

I have an 07 Dodge Dakota and this morning I turned on my truck and I keep getting the "Gascap" error, and my gascap message keeps popping up. I checked my gas cap and its on there, as always...its not loose, its tight and I hit the odometer resetter and it shuts off but then I turn my turn off and back on and it does it again! AND my check engine light is on...and I have no idea why! Any help? I think its going to have to go to the dealer.

Maybe it's keeping the bad code, i'd try unhooking the battery and then trying again.

Okay I'll try that. Thanks. How long should I unhook it for?

Well usually the computer should reset in about 30 seconds, but I always leave it unhooked for a few minutes just to be safe
