Automatic Transmission & Transfer Case Fluid
According to our owners manual, its says to use Mopar ATF +4 for both Auto Tranny & Transfer case change.
Anyone use anything differnt? I see Mobil 1 has an ATF....anyone tired there's?? Or is that a bad idea and do I need to stick with the Mopar?
Thanks

I use AMSOIL in everything except the tranny, as it is not approved by mopar and the 3 local dealers said they would not warranty it (I know what AMSOIL says and what their warranty claims, AND THE LETTER THEY WILL SEND THE DEALER Ijust don't want the hassle if there are problems). Mopar ATF+4 is under $5 at Walmart.

when it comes to the tranny and the transfer, the dealer does it. that is one thing I do not mess with.

When I had the Transmission recall performed I asked the dealer before hand if they planned on installing new ATF fluid after performing the recall work. Their answer was no, they would re-install the removed fluid. To me that was the wrong answer.....
When I brought the truck in I gave them 5 or 6 quarts of Amsoil ATF fluid and requested a new Transmission filter to be installed. They did as I asked and only charged me for the filter.
I really could not believe they would install old fluid.

I changed out the tranny and transfer case (along with everythign else) to AMSOIL a while ago...replaced the filters while I was at it...take your time and you won't make a mess. The hardest part was finding the right tool to disconnect the transmission lines so I could drain the convertor.
Oh, yeah the crossmember was in the way as well...just remove the bolts and out of the way she goes.
Don't care what the dealer says or doesn't..they don't touch the truck.

I respect the dealer only philosophy, especially when it comes to such a complicated and expensive piece of machinery. However, I can't see how a Synthetic switch could ever be a bad thing.....unless it is already old and worn out. I think automakers that use dino-fluids only are participating in the planned obsolescence that NJJer once spoke of
