Grille question
Hey guys, its been a long time, its fair to say I was a regular over 2 years ago now... no time these days... anyway just got back from the dealership getting an estimate for an accident some idiot caused by turning in front of me from a no turn lane... Anyway they're already ordering paint to match my truck, and they say they can paint my grille black to match my truck for $70, but can't guarantee it will stick cuz the grille is currently chrome...
Just wondering what ppl's opinions are on whether it will stick or not and if anyone has done it and what they're experiences have been.
P.S. I broke my hand Wednesday so typing is a b1tch, please expect moderate delays for such long winded responses as this... LOL :-P

Yeah, the paint will stick to the chrome just like metal or plastic. The questions is, how long will the chrome last. If it does scratch, the chrome is really gonna stick out. Can you remove the chrome first? Maybe have it chemically stripped. Or try to find a black sport appearace grille from a wrecked truck for $70.
i painted my grille a bunch of colors. in my oinion it looks best when the same color as the truck. my paint did not peel. i simply sanded it and used a self-etching primer. as long as they prep it properly and dont jsut spray it it should be fine. it you could unbolt it and prep it yourself it would guarantee success.
on the other hand you could crack it yourself and have them order a color coded grille under the insurance claim.

If they've already looked at it that's a good way to get bagged for insurance fraud...
As far as prep they said the would take it off, sand, and prime...
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know whether that part of the grille is actual chrome metal, steel with chrome plating/paint, or plastic with chrome paint??
BTW alot has changed since last time I was posting on here.
