Default why?

why do we have to remove the front axle to remove the lower control arm? this is what the manual states. why cant i just pop the lower ball joint from the knuckle.

i am changing the ball joint and need to take the lower contro larm to get it pressed.

Maybe if the hub isn't supported it could potentially droop to the point where it damages the CV. If you keep the hub up it sounds like you might be OK. Not sure though.

You'd want to support the hub anyway to prevent damage to the brake line.

A decent ratchet strap or even a piece of rope could hold up the hub if you find a point to tie it to.

Is the CV anywhere near a tone wheel or ABS part? If so be careful.

Other than that, I'd say, if it looks like you can do it, then you probably can. There aren't any big secrets hiding in the front end.
