Thinking about buying a Dak....

I think its personal preference.
I absolutely adore my 07 QC 4x4 4.7L Dak SLT. For me, its just right between too big and too small, has tons of power, plenty of creature comforts and can do lots of "real truck" stuff. The only real drawback I see if that the mileage stinks. So, I would say if you are going to actually use it like a truck, its got a huge edge over the other smaller tucks out there, UNLESS you drive it so many miles that gas mileage will become a major issue.
The other guys on the this forum know that I am the poster child for alternative fuels too (I use e85 unless I take a long trip to somewhere that I can't get it and constantly whine about the lack of a diesel option for trying out an SVO conversion.) The Dak gives you an option to buy American there as well and I don't think any of the other small trucks do that either.
What I would suggest is giving one a test drive and seeing if you get hooked on the ~300 hp of the 2008 and later 4.7 engines and if it the drive/interior feels right to her (I am also a big fan of how the oversize controls work when you have gloves on in the winter or for working.)

Believe me boys, I am all about buying the Dakota over the Toy. But it seemed that The first handfull of responses wasnt to positive. I like the fact of a V8 option. I like the styling. I like the fact that I will keep the trucks in the dodge family. One day, I will have 3500 CTD, and still have my 4.7 1500, nd hopefully a 4.7 Dak. geeze guys.
If I wasnt a dodge supporter, I wouldnt be on this sight.
BTW, my sig is pretty sweet. At least its big enough I can tell what the picture is...

I would buy my truck again! That is for sure, no Toy here! Go with the 4.7 too it gets about the same mileage as the 3.7 but you have more horses. 4x4 is your choice. I like it and you still have the options of the 4x2. I feel all trucks/manufactures have problems. This isnt my first dakota and this will not be my last. Its been tough and I havent *knock on wood* had problems.

What's this 9/11 guilt trip stuff? All companies are in the business of making money, and although their dollars go to good causes, its PR.
The Japanese manufacturers build cars in America. American dealers employ Americans to sell and maintain them. Ford and GM sell around the world. It's a global economy. Pop the hood of your Dodge and check out all the Denso parts.
Like I said before, I do like my truck. For the price I paid, I got twice the truck I would have from Toyota. The frame is huge. The (manual) transmission is a beast. The 9.25" axle is proven over 50 years. I've heard the 3.7/4.7 mentioned as some of the most reliable gas engines Chrysler has made. It just remains to be seen how it holds up over time.
