Hey everyone, just got my first Dakota, a 2005 SLT V8. I was wondering what the best first mods are for it, performance and visual wise. It's a 2WD Quadcab. Any posts would be appreciated!

Usually the best place to start is with the air intake and exhaust. Factory exhaust don't allow an engine to fully breathe. Congrats on owning your new Dak.

So what would be better... a CAI first or exhaust? And if CAI, which is the best?

I personally like the Airaid and the K&N FIPK kit. I would start with the air intake and then exhasut. Got to get the air in to get it out.

x2 on intake and exhaust. Rancho shocks....and/or a real lift kit since you're 2WD. Steady midgrade gas. Tuner.

IMO exhaust first; it grabs attention and gets rid of that ugly rear resonator.

imo, set it on fire before you owe way more than it's worth..

jk, jk

I always do exhaust first, and depending how handy you are, and how much extra $$ you have laying around, I'd but the e-fan setup, cat-back exhaust, and a CAI at the same time, bolt em all up and be pleasantly surprised!

the first true mod should be, swap out the 195 stat for a cooler 180 stat, and for 6.00 at your local napa store. this mod wont break the bank. a cooler engine is a happy engine, the list of mods is endless. pick and choose what you can afford, than over time add more. and congrats of the purchase
