New Install - Reverse Lights

New Install - Reverse Lights
Well, as you probably know, my truck got broken into during finals week. i replaced my window, and decided to retint my truck from 15% to 5%. my first truck (an 01 ram) had 5% and it is dark. i like the 15%, but hey, i didnt like walkin up during the day and being able to see the outline of things. i wanted it pitch dark, so bam, i used the unfortunate event to upgrade. so now that i have 5% tint, and i have (MANY coats of) nightshade on my tails, my reverse lights are useless, even with the fire&ice bar. so tonight, on a whim, i decided to install some rear facing fog lights and wire them into my reverse lights. now, you might think that will look gay, but they are mounted far enough back and high enough that you wont be able to see them unless you are eye level with them, and they still provide ample light. just took some crappy pics with my phone, both lights are 55watt. the pics really dont do it justice, the spread is a lot wider than it looks in the pic. the camera only picked up the main light beam, not the faded stuff. but hey it came out great, i angled it exactly how i wanted it from looking from the drivers seat. sorry i ramble, less talky, more picy

the half moon in the top 2 pics is the reverse light (in the taillight) on the passenger side. i realize the drivers side is out in the pics. the bulb is good, i guess its just a bad splice. god im a *****, cant even splice a wire. geez. i didnt notice that till after i closed up our shop and was too lazy to fix it tonight. i was just pumped i got the fogs workin. thats what happens when you get bright ideas at midnight after a few drinks. and yes, i know my liscense plate lights are out. friggin A. replacements on the way, thank you v-leds.com

Looks good man.
I saw a cool idea the other day on a local Ram... He had mounted some thin LED backup lights to both sides of the rear, but had them back and up a little and facing more toward the ground, a lot like yours, but probably more visible, since I could see them as he backed out of a parking space... If I see that truck again, I will try to get a pic.

ive decided im going to make a bracket to mount those lights a little higher up, maybe just 3/4" since they could be mounted better. once thats done, ill take pics from underneath. below is a pic of my new radar since my old one got stolen out of my truck. its a crappy pic, but its clean. small hole, goes straight down and is wired into the power supply to my radio. wish i didnt leave my camera in stillwater or id take some better pics. i would use my moms camera but its always dead. maybe ill get it on the charge if i can find her crap

hey! zeta beta tau huh? we have a zbt chapter at oklahoma state, unfortunately they are pretty small and looks be to on their way out. where did you go to school? my cousin is a zbt at UPenn.
either way, i drilled a VERY small hole in front of the thick metal brace which is under the dash. well actually i didnt drill anything, i used a self tapping jig type thing and spun it by hand. it came out great, very clean. the hole is located directly in the center of the dash, between both middle air vents. then i spliced into the radio power supply and ground. easy as that. took 15 minutes. after doing it once, i could do it again in half the time.
and its Teke from now on haha jk
