Automatic, mine was 173 rwhp straight stock. Now, I'm around 400 RWHP or so.

Ported and polished heads rock. Somtime after forging the internals I'm going with them also.

Thanks a lot for all the responses. One of the reasons I bought this truck was that it has impressive specs compared to others in the price range. It is very heavy. I weighed it and it's around 4200 lbs. Overall the Dak is a very well built truck and I didn't really buy it with the intention of making it fast. I bought it because I needed 4 doors and a box but didn't want a full size truck. I am going to install an electric fan and I am looking for shorty headers. No manufacturers list them for the 08 and up that I am aware of though. BTW, the truck has 7500 miles on it. I'm hoping the mileage will improve. I know the headers and e-fan will help.

So a stock Dakota puts down around 170 rwhp? What about the '08 motors? What does a Ford Ranger 4.0 put down? I find it hard to believe that your Dakota is slower than a 4.0 Ranger? But then again 170 rwhp isn't alot for a truck. The 4.0 Nissan Frontiers come in around 220 rwhp don't they? :-)

They are like 265 at the crank and 200-210 at the wheels. On drag times there are some stock 4.0 dyno sheets and they are usually right around 200. The 2008 4.7L Dakota dynos are 305 at the crank and 230-240 ish to the wheels. So yes, the 08 Dakota has more power at the crank and at the wheels.

So how in H**L is his '08 slower than a damn Ranger? What are those motors rated at? Like 200HP, maybe 150 rwhp? Geez
