Default K&N and 4.7 HO

Question: Has anyone added a K&N filter, swapped out the stock airbox, and noticed a severe power drain? I did this and first thing I noticed was the engine noise was louder. When I stepped on the skinny pedal, it doesn't seem to have the speed it once had.

I'm guessing the engine noise is louder due to taking the engine cover off, but what would cause the decress in horsepower? I mean, the truck could barely pull a Focus, while on a trailer. Or even go up a hill at 60....

Help! I miss my power!

Pull your battery wire and re-set the computer. These trucks seem to be very picky about changing anything as they are all sensored up.

Is there a timing on keeping the battery wire disconnected? What I mean is, how long do I wait until I reconnect?

Will I have to do this when I install the Flowmaster as well?

Also, because I don't know, how will the computer know it has had changes and will adjust itself?

The answer to the exhaust is yes. The sensors are telling the truck that something is much different....in this case the MAF sensor. I don't know exactly what happens, my best guess is that the computer goes into a safe mode. When you re-set the computer by pulling the positive battery cable for ?? 10 minutes?? The computer now starts to re-learn it's parameters with the new intake. Someone else may be better at explaining this. It made a difference at both my exhaust and intake changes.

Yea tht would be my answer too. It's worked like a charm for me a couple times. I usually unhook it and walk away the minimum i would say is about 5 minutes but i'm no expert either.

I thought you had to turn the ignition key to the "on" position with the battery disconnected to reset the computer?

So, disconnect the battery and put the key into the 'On' position? For about 5-10 minutes?

Sheesh, what's the worse that can happen....?
