LT stands for light truck. LT's have a load range of C,D, or E. That is 6,8 or 10 ply. As a rule, they will have a much greater load capacity than a P's which stands for passenger. P rated tires are usually 4 ply. Some P metric tires have a xtra load rating and can handle more load than regular p metric tires. Lt tires tend to ride much stiffer than p metric tires unless you run a low air pressure. But if you do that you increase tire wear, fuel consumption and decrease pay load capacity.
If you rarely haul or tow, and don't use your truck off-road, your best bet is a P metric tire for ride quality purposes. If you do any or all of the above, sacrifice some ride quality and go with an LT tire...

I run a 265/75/16 Firestone Destination A/T. I like them, but I think if I can get the truck a bit higher, we could go just a bit bigger.

I can't afford any loss of mileage. I also really appreciate how smooth and quiet stock Wranglers are.

The DuraTracs are suprisingly quite on the road. They are a new tire by GY i was in a toss up between the BFG A/T or GY duretracs but the goodyears had a more aggressive sidewall. That is the main reason i went with them.

With a small change like going from 245/70 or 265/70 TO 265/75, you might not loose gas mileage. Depending on how you drive, you can GAIN gas mileage.

Throwing a larger diameter tire on lowers your final gear ratio. If your commute is highway driving, you most likely wouldn't loose mileage, and in some cases people claim gains.

Now if you were to throw 35" tires on, then thats a different story...

Just switched to the BFG All terrain TA KO and WOW what a difference! I cannot believe the ability for the more weight and cornering. The stock shocks are CRAP and need to be upgraded as the new tires weigh at least twice as much! So be prepared when you go from Ptire to LT
