Do you like those thin wall tires on trucks?
I like large wheels. I also like thin wall tires. Put them together and put them on a truck and I think they stink. May be a Porsche but not a truck. Those Escalades with huge wheels with barely any meat on them look positively gross.
To me it all depends on what you plan on using your truck for. If its more show instead of work then by all means whatever works for you. If you have 4x4 and use your truck as a truck then to me it makes more sense to have the smaller rims and bigger tires. If you go off roading as well you can air down your tires with more rubber to cushion instead of contacting rim.

sure a motorcycle would be beter, but take a 29 inch tire with a 16 inch wheel and take a sharp corner, fast. then do it with a 20 inch wheel... let me know which has better turning characteristics when your done with that test. i've done it, the 20s felt firm and responsive, the 16s felt soft and on the edge of traction...
the biggest thing to notice is the size of teh combo in comparison to the wheelwell
sometimes the truck looks waay to tall if you run a lopro tire on say, 18"s
but, my buddy has that combo on his airbagged dak and it looks good since it fills the wheelwell with no gaps,
his combo on a stock truck, looks bad
but then, my other buddy has 26"s and lo pros on his new silverado, stock height and the truck looks too tall,
its all in hte eye of the beholder i think im just whoring up my post count
