Hello all!

I'm looking to buy a Superchips 3865 from Ebay. From what I understand this will only work on 1 vehicle at a time. What happens if I buy a tuner that is already installed on another vehicle? The guy looks legit with over 1000 sales and good feedback, but I'm still a little worried.

Yup, $100, I just got one from a vendor on e-bay for $230, they did not know how to tell it was VIN locked, and it was. Fortunalty they refunded me the $100 to unlock, so be VERY careful!!!

The units are very nice and compact compared to the 3815, and there are rumors that the 3865 may someday support shifting firmness (I am not holding my breath with this company).

But yah, go for it , just ask ALL of the questions and tell them how to check it (Just plug it into a USB port to power it, it will tell instantly if VIN locked)

Thanks guys. I put my old stereo equipment up on ebay. I will get this ordered in about 2 weeks. Can't wait. The only thing that worries me is that 1-2 3000 rpm shift. Do you guys get that too, and is it bothersome? Stock shifts about 2000, and 50% higher seems excessive.

I forgot who, but someone here sold their tuner because it bothered his wife, who drove the truck daily.

 

yup, drove me crazy also. I uninstalled because of it and have not retuned yet, but I think they have corrected it.

Not bothersome at all, the stock 1-2 shift point made the truck feel sluggish. I'd prefer a crisp quick shift over a sloppy power robbing shift that feels smooth any day. The only way I could see it bothering you is at slow speeds (traffic) if you're one of those drivers who tends to be on and off the pedal a lot to maintain momentum rather than more of a steady pressure since you'll feel the engine slowing you a little when you let off. Once SC gets us control of the torque management things will be even better, at WOT you can feel the tq management holding you back a lot in the 1-2 shift and somewhat in the 2-3 as well.

 

You know I haven'treally noticed that shift too bad. I'll pay attention today and see what ya guys are talking about. Mine shifts normal besides being firm, and acting very strong with more torque.

 

I emailed tech support at Superchips.. Here is the response I got. Do you find this info correct?



Can the shift points be manually adjusted, or are the preset tunes the only thing that adjusts the shift points?

The shift points can manually be adjusted and fine tuned in each setting of the quick tune.

It doesn't bother me at all either. Just as Altair mentioned, I'd rather have a crisp running truck than a sluggish one. The tuners are worth every penny.
