I know this topic has been beaten to death as I have been searching through the site for about 6 hours now off and on, however I haven't really found a definitive answer on wheel spacing and tire size.

I am looking at buying new wheels to mount the 265/75R16 tires on, I would prefer to keep the width of the wheel at 8". What backspacing do the factory wheels have? I ask this because apparently this tire size fits without rubbing on the factory 16x8 wheel.

Alternatively what backspacing would work without rubbing with this size of tire?

 

I dont know the backspacing, but its the 16x7 factory rims that wont have rub, the 16x8 rub slightly. I hear its really not a big deal, and can be solved easily.

 

hmm, maybe I'll look for a set of after market 16x7s

 

Well... I have set of Nightrunner tires/wheels that I would like to sell... they are Goodyear P265/65x17 which would give you a smiliar height.

my 08 trx came stock with 16x8 and 265-70-16 but i put a set of 16x8 eagle wheels and tried some 265-75's but had MAJOR rub issues, i had to drop to a 245-75 to run the aftermarket wheels with no rub, and that is with a leveling kit

 

Where did it rub and what was the backspacing and offset of the wheel?

 

I guess the wheel makes a huge difference. Im still running 265/75 r16 on the stock 16x7 wheels, and thats with no leveling kit.

best bet is to get the exact offset and backspacing of the ST 16x7 painted steel wheels if planning on running 265/75. Any wider of a tire, and your going to need that extra inch of width on the rim though.

Unfortunately, I dont have the wheels dimensions. Maybe talking to JEGS or SUMMIT they know the wheels offset and backspacing?? I don't know anything about that since Ive never bought an aftermarket wheel before.

Also, I hear that for the 16x8 guys it rubs mainly at the mud flap, and then if you go to a 285/75, then you rub the flap big time, and also the frame. That can be fixed with removing the mud flap and then limiting the steering radious.

I appear to have PLENTY of room and clearance with my 265/75 R16 BF Goodwrench AT KOs in the front. The closests it gets to rubbing is in the back of the wheel well, when the back of the tire turns inward ( like the passenger side making a right turn) The tire gets about 1" from rubbing the black plastic liner. I consider that plenty of clearance. It must be the wheels I have, I cant think of anything else. My sig below is me wearing the 265/75s on the ST 16X7 wheels. No lift.

The painted ST wheels are ugly though, If my truck had the 16x8's, I would make them work, trimming, wheel spacer, whatever.

 

Cool, if it is just the mudflap that rubs then i'm all over a set of 265/75's ASAP.

You guys ever come home and the significant other is just waiting there for you with that ultra-guilty look on their face? The one that says, I made a bad, but I don't wanna tell you until I'm sure you're in a good mood. Well that was the case last night, when she finally copped to it it turns out that she had borrowed my Dak to help her dad on his acreage and got the passenger side mudflap caught on a old fencepost and ripped it off. Still not sure how she managed it but...

 

the backspacing was either 4 or 4.5 in. so basically 0 offset. but it hit the front bumper, that i might have been comfortable trimming but it hit the rear of the fender really bad... alot more than i would like to hack off of my brand new pickup.

my tires are also m/t's which will rub a little more than a/t's... here it is, but i also replaced my bumper since
