Is spinning your tires on loose sand bad for your lsd? Lately on the way home from work I've been passing some sand and flooring it so the tires spin and the truck slides....will that destroy my lsd diff? What about flooring it on a straight away so the truck "jumps"?
in general, any kind of abuse is not good... but I think spinning in dirt is less "bad" than the hole shots. I havent had good luck with these stock LSDs, but I dont think it was from the driving style.
Eric, have you ever taken the rear cover off of yours to try and pinpoint the problem. After seeing the internals, yours might be an earier fix than you thought?
We just picked up a 2006 Dakota 4.7 V8 How do I know if this truck has a LSD or stock LSD. Today in the rain making a right turn I could feel the rear driver side tire hop some going around the corner.
Whats bad for the (any clutch type) LSD is when only 1 tire is spinning, that means the clutches and steels are being spun together, usually much faster than the the speeds caused when cornering. This simply wears them out faster although the prolonged and fast spinning of 1 tire could potentially cause some decent damage to the clutches.
