Just test drove a 2005 dakota and have a question
4low should never be used unless you are towing somehing and you get stuck while using 4lock. No matter what drive it is in, it will not feel like a rear wheel drive vehicle as it is an AWD vehicle,

There will be some resistance when on dry pavement. You should notice it but its not going to be overbearing. Hope that helps.
Frenchy, dont be so hard on the new members! The guy was just asking a question, theres no need to tell him it was dumb or not. Thats in the eye of the beholder. One time locking it in 4wd on dry pavement and moving it down the parking lot isnt going to destroy it. Yes its not healthy, but still I would have probably done the same to make sure the 4wd was ENGAGING in a USED TRUCK!

Wouldn' be my test of choice, but it works...I imagine you wouldn't have to go to the steering lock at 25 MPH to detect that 4WD was on. A low speed crawl and a little back and forth won't hurt anything once.

My wife will forget to turn her Trailblazer back to 2x4 from 4x4 and I will not notice until I back out of the garage (sometimes will not move in reverse while in 4x4) or once I turn out of the driveway and the wheels will chirp. THe outside wheels need to go faster than the inside wheels in a LSD, but once locked in 4x4 they will both move at the same speed and the inside wheel will break traction and skid to compensate. That is why it is hard to turn in tight circles on dry pavement,

I live out in east bumf*ck rural NY, and I would still have to drive miles and miles from a dealer to a gravel road.
Don't be snarky. So what if the guy asked a bit of a non-question.
