Default New tire size question

In the next couple of months I'll be able to get rid of my stock SRA's, (finally) and will be going with the Hankook ATM's in 265 70R 17. I'm still running the stock tires on my '05 as I have less than 11K on the odometer. So, of course my spare has never touched the ground. So, by going with the larger, (in diameter tire) what if anything will happen to my drive train if I should happen to get a flat and I have to use my spare of a different size??

It will put a heavy strain on your diff for the time that you are running it. But like all the cars that have just the little doughnut spares it probably won't destroy anything if you stick to the 80km at 80km/h rule (50mi at 50). However if you can afford it I would suggest getting the extra spare.

make sure you run your spare in the front though, even if it involves switching 2tires to get it there.

You really should get the correct size spare. You really want to worry about having to rotate your spare to the front when you blow a rear tire, and then not being able to use 4 wheel until you get your tire fixed or replaced? What if its pouring out on a 40 degree night and your on the highway?

Totally defeats the purpose of a full size spare...

I just carry those plugs that you can shove into a nail hole or something of the sort and a portable 12v air compressor. They work fine unless you have a side wall go bad on you. Then I still have my wrong size spare if that doesn't work. The price of tires in Can. is crazy so I just take my chances.
But like the guys said, if you can save the extra coin just replace the spare as well.
The other reason that I haven't changed my spare out is that I am still running stock tire size for the winter time. When my winters wear out then I will probably get the spare tire the same size at that time.

^^ I only ever had those plugs on my RX-8 and all my motorcycles. I have dealt with some pretty hefty punctures, the only tires I replaced afterwards were the bike tires (I figure if I only have 2 I would rather not take the risk that a plug is gonna fail around a corner.)
