Default seat belt freaking out

I have a 2008 Dodge Dakota and the seat belt is broken. When I have it buckled, it doesn't sense that it is and keeps beeping at me. The dealership wants over $400 to fix it, which I don't have. They said it was the seatbelt tensionsier (?) I don't care about fixing it right now, just want the beeping to stop. I have searched the web for a fix, but all I can really find is the bypass for it where you buckle and unbuckle a few times. That isn't working in mine because the truck isn't sensing it to begin with. Please help its driving me crazy!

You may want to post in the 3rd Generation Dakota sub-forum. I will move it there for you.

This just might save you $400.00

Here is how to kill the seatbelt chime.
You don't have to be in the seat for this process.

1. With truck off, connect driver's seatbelt.

2. Turn truck on, wait for seatbelt light to go off.

3. Disconnect seat belt, reconnect it, do it again, one more time, ending with the seatbelt buckled, (the third time is the charm). You should hear one chirp and you have done it. This all has to be completed within one minute of turning your truck on.

I have tried that. The problem is that the seat belt doesn't sense when it is buckled for that to work. I have also tried unplugging anything I could get my hands on under the seat and it still wouldn't stop.

I guess you bought it used and don't have the warranty. How about a non-dealership mechanic? Hopefully someone else on the forum can help you out.

lol, i came in here to say the same thing you did dakotaff. Too bad I didn't think about the fact that the truck isn't recognizing the buckle at all!

I remember a thread a little while back where some guy cut the wires @ the buckle. Someone may chime in as to if that worked at all.

i had the same problem with mine, i simply found the two wires leading to the sensor in the buckle, cut both and spliced together, fixed it right away
