Question about 2008 Dakota 4.7L
I have a 2008 4.7L (Flex Fuel) Dakota that I purchased used about a month ago. I continually hear/read that the 2008's came with a higher output 4.7L with dual sets of plugs (upper/lower). I may just be blind, but when I look at my engine I see the typical 8 plugs and wires, but I don't see the secondary set. Do flex fuel Dakota's not have the new higher output version of the 4.7L? Are the second row suppose to be directly above the primary set or are they located under the coils? I'm just trying to figure out what exactly I have and what kind of maintainence I need to perform. Any feedback or pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That is strange. You can request a build sheet from Chrysler and see but the plugs should be obvious

Yeah, the plugs are hidden a little bit.
Here's a good picture of the engine:

I can't find it now but I believe the plugs aren't your normal coppers. I believe the top bank is a different type of plug than the bottom bank.

if you're seeing wires, something is wrong...

your lower row is bosch irdium prt no.SPFR8TE2AA
your upper row is bosch nickel yttrium prt no.SPFR8TI332
that would be OEM being you boughtit used it could be different hope this helps

Thanks Canadian Dakota! Hmmm.....I bet a dealer plug change would be quite expensive when the time comes. Just a quick check online is showing that just the plugs alone could cost between $60.00 - $100+ if you do it yourself. Thankfully we won't have to change these very often.
My Hemi, I believe, came stock with copper Champions so I wonder why the switch in plug type in the newer, smaller 4.7L?
Oh, and just found this:
And from the Owners Manual (just in case anyone ever searches for this info)

Oh, and just found this:
However, there are eight of one type, eight of another, each pair in a coilon-plug (C-O-P) system with one on a spark plug wire. They're not interchangeable, warns Chrysler. The upper row (on the intake valve side of the head) is part of die C-O-P assembly and is Bosch No. 05149050AB (nickel yttrium electrodes). The lower row (on the exhaust valve side) is attached to the plug wire and is Bosch No. 05149888AA (iridium electrodes). The upper plugs are in a very tight well, and you can't get them out with a standard 5/8 spark plug socket. You'll need a thin-wall 5/8 for the job.
Upper Bank — FR8TE2 (Gap 0.039 in [0.99 mm]) Lower Bank — FR8T1332 (Gap 0.051 in [1.30 mm])
NOTE: ** Vehicles built with the 4.7L engine are
equipped with sixteen spark plugs, one set is located on
the top of the engine under the coils, and the second set
is located on the side of the engine.
The spark plugs located under the coils are a standard
plug, and must be changed every 30,000 miles
(50 000 km).
The spark plugs located on the side of the engine are a
premium plug, and must be changed every 102,000 miles
(170 000 km).
