Electric Fan of choice
Hey all. I looked through the threads and theres are a lot of people suggesting electric fan conversion. What fans are you guys using? I think thats going to be my next upgrade, but i worry about heat. I go out to 110+ temps and I just want to make sure i get something that can handle the heat at least (if not better) than the stock fan. Thanks.

the black magic fans are proven winners. the taurus fan conversion is popular with musclecar guys, aswell as here. i am looking into the chevy hhr fan, it pulls a lot less power and pulls more air than my current weisco fan. plus, they are cheap. around 50 bucks new on rock auto.
Is it bad to get a black magic if I'm running a 800 watt sound system? I am probly going to get a yellowtop soon anyway...
Hey Eric what does it take to use a chevy fan as far as wiring and junk?

What CFM should i be looking for?
What does stock run about?
What size fits well?
Do you remove the shroud?
And: what do you replace the clutch fan with? or do you just remove it?

Same questions above about the clutch fan.
Also how hard is it to wire. And How do you turn it on or do you have a switch inside the truck

At the top of the forum is a 3rd Gen FAQ. Lots of good info there.

Not sure on the stock CFM, but I am guessing its close to what I have.
I have an 18 inch single fan.
I used my factory shroud and fabbed up a bracket to use the shroud mounting holes and bottom tab.
When you pull off the clutch fan, you dont need to put anything on the threaded surface.
As for gaining power or not... Yes, absolutely you do. You will feel it on your first ride around.
ok, wiring... I used a Derale adjustable fan controller. You just hook up the positive from the controller to the battery, the negative to a good ground (chassis) and then your fan power and grounds to the controller. Then take your temp sensor and install that. I adjusted mine to turn on when my stat opened up...
Hopefully that helps clear up some of the questions. Studly's write up is a good one, might want to take a look at that also.
oh yeah, travis, you would need to figure out a mounting solution... but I would think you would be fine on power.
my electric fan quit a few days ago, so i just put my factory fan back on..... and it honestly feels like i put a b-52 prop on it! the feel and power is night and day....i forgot what it was like and am amazed that sucker drags as much as it does!!!
