That's what I would have thought.

I still am debating on 4.10s but with the 6speed already spewing out 2200rpms or so at 60mph... I dont wanna be cruising at like 3000rpms if I go from 3.55s to 4.10s...

I think 3.92s will be my gear of choice... but even still... I think I'll be revvin up slightly higher, obviously...

I wish the 3.92s were an option when I built my truck, but for some reason, the manual trans only came with 3.55s as the only possibility.

You just answered your own question on the reason as to why only 3.55s were the highest option in the manual trans...

You say 4.10 isn't much of a change from 3.92, what if I have 3.55? I don't want to go from sluggish truck to less sluggish truck... But I don't want to render 4wD useless because my gears are always spinning out from the line. So is 4.10 better for 3.55 compared to a 3.92 user?

Trucky, 3.55 to 4.10 was a very obvious difference, especially comming out of the hole. As long as you do both front and rear gears you will be good to go.

Or only do the rears and pop off my 4wd button. $1000 saved instantly.

I've been told that 9.25 axles all use the same parts regardless of application.

A friend of a friend has a buddy that works the parts counter at a dealership...they have access to some cross reference data I guess.

As for the front, the Genuine Gear Brand (G2) worked fine on the 8.xx axle.

Thanks for the feedback,

But no, and I assume you mean raising the shift points for the purpose of remaining in a lower gear/high RPM/peak torque range.

My problem was not the ability to stay in a lower gear for an extended period. Just the opposite. I wanted to get into higher gears and remain there during light acceleration...and to avoid downshifting to 2nd at 55mph (4000rpm) on those long 6% grades.

The 4.7 H.O. has sufficient torque in the 2200 to 2500rpm range to do the job but the PCM is too aggressive with the tranny. It wants to downshift with the slightest movement of the accel pedal (1/8") when under load.

I experimented with 2" shorter tires which calculated out as equivalent to 4.10 ratio and I experienced significant improvements. That's why I decided to swap gears. The shorter tires are hard to find, look awkward and their load rating is much lower.

4.56 gears would be even better for towing only, but not so good for all around driving.

My tuner is a Superchips Cortex and as far as I can tell, it allows you to increase WOT shift points but does not appreciably change the part throttle shifting...except in the tow tune which delays up-shift somewhat. According to the SC tech, it does that to prevent detonation since the tuner is calling for advanced spark timing.

Keep the comments coming. There is much to learn here.

The front 3.92's will be available and should be in great condition since I've only used 4wd about ten times to pull me out of loose gravel.

But the rear ring gear has a chipped tooth on the heal about 3/4" long and 1/4" deep. The tech that removed it claims it was already there but it didn't make any noise and it looked like a fresh chip. Who knows?

With a proper set-up it might provide many miles of trouble free service...but it might also blow up in the first mile. If your still interested, let me know and we'll come up with a fair price. But be aware that shipping on those heavy bastards will be steep.

Any thoughts from you other guys about using a chipped tooth ring gear?

Well now isn't that interesting...Richmond gears with a Mopar logo on the box.

I wonder if that means that Richmond is the out-source manufacturer for Chrysler?

What was the name of the retailer where you bought them?

Hey Canadiandodge,

Is that an OEM or aftermarket hitch receiver on your Dak?

I agree...for towing, 4.56 would be awesome. Mebbe we'll hear from someone who's done it.

I wish I had enough $$$ to buy a truck like yours and dedicate it to towing only.

BTW, what year models offered the 6 speed manual on the 4.7 and which body styles?
