Question Check Engine Light?

My check engine light went on yesterday and has been on ever since... I have a suspicion that nothing is actually wrong with the vehicle (I'll explain why in a bit).

First of all, the vehicle was just serviced by my mechanic (not a dealer) oil change, etc. several months ago. The 05 Dakota has been running fine since I purchased it around October.

Secondly, my check engine light went on once since I've had the vehicle after I got a buggy Viper 5901 remote start/alarm installed in it. As soon as the wiring to the remote start was hooked up and the Viper cranked my truck once, the light went on. The light eventually went off overnight and hasn't been on at all (till yesterday) since I had the viper install attempted a few weeks ago. The viper is currently not hooked up to the vehicle. Main box was removed after it was found that it was bugged.

My question is, did my check engine light somehow go on again as a result of having a bad Viper system installed several weeks ago? If so, why did the light turn on now and it hasn't been on since the one time it came on during the install?

What else could be causing the light to be on?

Thanks guys!

if you don't have a scanner or superchips programmer, bring it to a auto shop like advance or pep boys and they have a scanner. You can check if you can pull a code from it. That is the most definitive way of knowing what the light is.

Can I still check it when the light is off?

yes, if the light is intermintent, it stores unless you reset your ECU (disconnected the battery) for instance.

P0463

Fuel level sensor a

Circuit high input

Anyone know what this means?

Did the buggy brain of the Viper system cause the "Circuit High Input"?

What should I do about all this?

My check engine light on my 05 is intermittent as well. It sometimes goes off when I fill up with fuel, but then comes back on again after a day or so. Could a poor gas cap cause the fuel level sensor to flip the Check Engine light on?

Yes that could cause it. our trucks (and a lot of newer cars) have a "closed" fuel system. If the cap isn't on properly, the CEL will come on and reset its self after a while once you fix the fuel cap.

I guess some of the caps don't seal/fit proper, this can cause that problem.
I would think the dealer would cover a new gas cap if you still have warrenty on the truck, but then a new one should be fairly cheap anyways.
