Help with security alarm
I have a 2006 Dakota SLT and I can't get the factory security alarm to work. When you start the engine, the instrument cluster security light comes on momentarily indicating that the bulb is OK. When you lock the doors with the remote fob, the security light does not come or flash and if the locked door is opened from the inside, the alarm does not go off. Haven't found any burnt fuses in fuse box and everything else works OK. What fuse number is used for the alarm? Is there a reset function to correct this or another way to arm the system?
first off, if the truck senses a key inside the vechicle. the alarm will not go off. sharons nitro had an issue an the service manager told us that. if the truck was bought used. the previous owner might have disabled it. check the owners manual. you may need to reverse the steps to get it to work. also try this. lock the truck with the fob. than use the key in the door to unlock truck, open door an see if alarm goes off. if it does. you will need to start an stop truck 2 times to get alarm to turn off
I tried your suggestion but the alarm still doesn't work. If the previous owner disabled it, how can it be re-enabled? All the manual says is to set the alarm you press the door lock on the fob and then its set. There is no mention of a reset or how to enable the alarm if it was turned off.

they need to hook up at the dealership to turn it back on or off... there arent any fuses or anything like that in the fuse box. That would be too easy for a thief to just pop the fuse out and shut the alarm off.
The way we used to test entrance security was to leave the window down and lock the vehicle. Then open it from inside through the window.
Also, try locking the truck twice. I had to hit the lock button twice on my old liberty... its worth a shot at least.
