Body lift for manual?
I own a 2006 Dakota with a six speed manual. I have put the leveling kit and the lift blocks in the back to get it to sit a little higher, but i have looked and researched body lifts and cant seem to find any for a manual, im wondering if there is one or if the body lift is limited to automatic transmissions. If its a consern with the shifter linkage being too short or something can i fabricate a extender or something of that nature?
I spoke to performance accessories on the phone about this long ago. Apparently the Dakota they used to design there product was an automatic. They never went as far as getting a manual tranny 05+ dakota, to test that out.
The kit will fit on the manual dakota perfectly...but the gear shift will be sunken 3 inches into the floor...since the body has been lifted.
No one knows if that will cause a problem with shifting, because they didnt bother to test it, and flat out told me they never will.
Usually when they sell a body kit for a manual tranny truck, they simply include a little rod so you can cut your shifter arm off, and weld on the 3" extension.
For years and years custom truck shops have been doing this without a kit, so if your getting your body lift professionally installed, just tell them the manual shifter needs to be extended, and will need custom fabrication.
It definately can be done, and easily, but performance accessories simply wont include the little extension in any 05+ kit because they never got a look at it, and don't know 100% the type of metal used, or if its hollow or solid, where the cut needs to be made.
Ive seen some home solutions too, Ive seen people tap the rod where they cut it, and make a custom shifter that they threaded on, etc. It can be done.
