Finally elimanted almost all of the drone
I finally got rid of about 3/4 of the drone that I've been experiencing since I put on my first exhaust system on this truck. Now driving it is waaaaaay more tolerable.
My first exhaust system was a custom y-pipe to 3" si/so Spintech and exiting out behind the rear tire. The drone at idle was pretty bad and between 1700 - 2100.
So I replaced that with removal of the y-pipe and ran 2.5" di / so 3" Borla muffler and pipe exiting behind the rear tire with a 4" chrome tip.
And just recently I had the Borla replaced with a Magnaflow (which I like the sound of most of all) hoping that would fix the drone problem. Again a 2.5" di / so 3" with pipe exiting behind the rear tire.
Through all of that that the drone between around 1600 RPM to 2100 RPM was enough to cause the plastic and metal in the cab to resonate. It got in your brain and just drove you nuts. Riding in the back seats was brutal.
I read that a lot of the Ram guys were cutting their tail pipes off and dumping it just after the axle and pointing at a 45 degree angle. I did just that today and sure enough most of the drone is gone. I took it on a 20 mile drive and it is much more pleasant to drive now.
What prompted the cut? My 19 and 17 yo kids in the back of the truck last night saying "Oh, god! I can't take much more of this. It's giving me a headache."

Maybe this summer I'll experiment with a quarter wave tube and adding the tail pipe back but for right now I'm just going to enjoy the "almost silence" in the cab.
