Default Need help on purchasing Flowmaster Muffler

Hey all,

I had the Flowmaster 40 series muffler on my V8 4.6 Mustang and I really loved the sound. It wasn't too loud, or too aggressive. It was perfect.

I'm wanting to put that same muffler on my truck, but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out which 40 series muffler I'm looking for.

There is a "Delta Flow" and an "American Thunder" 40 series. I don't know which one I had on my mustang...

By the way, I have a single tailpipe.

Thanks guys!

Could you guys also please tell me which kind of muffler I need for my truck? I have a stock exhaust on my 2005 Dakota V8. I don't know if I want a center inlet/center outlet, center inlet/offset outlet, etc.

I have a delta 55 series, need to have Offset Inlet / Opposite Side Offset Outlet 2.5 in pipe. Can't help as far as sound for the 40 american thunder vs delta. I can tell you I really love the sound of my delta 50. Kept the front resonator on removed the back.

I've had both but not on this truck.

The Delta Flow for me had a slightly more smooth sound than the aggressive Thunder 40. And when I mean slightly I mean just a hair.

If I were to use one of these I would order it about .5" to 1" larger in pipe I.D. size than I need since they don't flow quite as well as some other mufflers.

As for drone, I've run 3 different mufflers on my Dakota and they all droned badly. That is until I cut the tail pipe off and dumped it just over the axle and pointing at a 45 degree angle.

Also, if I were to do it all over again I'd probably keep the rear resonator and remove the front resonator.

As for what position inlet/outlet to get I really can't say. If you are going to have an exhaust shop do it I'm sure they can work with what ever you get.
