Pshhh leaky header

Default Pshhh leaky header

Ok first off I did jba headers last year as many of you remember passenger side was a beoch but didn't leak.. Well over the past 2 months I heard it leaking a little and didn't really care too much just knew it was on the list to fix... Now the gasket just let go all together and sounds like a dam clunker... Air ram sells metal gaskets which says to never have a leak again.. My question is has anyone ever used any type of copper sealant to prevent leaks and would it be a good idea or forget it? I'm planing on wraping the header while it's off.. Any input would be great!

I've never had good sucess with copper or aluminum gaskets. The gasket probably blew out do to the bolts being loosened by the heat cycles of the exhaust. Get a quality stock replacement like mr gasket and use some type of split lock header bolts or stay on top of the bolts by tightening them regularly.

See I did do regular tightening on the bolts never had a problem til now I prob will put in some of those locking bolts tho sounds like a good idea

it doesnt sound like a very good idea but, on the race car we dont even use gaskets, just high temp permatex, and never had a problem with it, but when i had my 440 in my 75 it would blow gaskets regulary, the only cure i found for that was to stack two gaskets and solved that one.

locktite on the bolts after a gasket..maybe add 2 like dodgetrucker said??? ahhaha

Everyone has heard of doubling the head gaskets, so with that said I cant imagine why it wouldnt work on the exhaust, like trucker was saying.

i just want to do this once more its a total B*tch to do.. doubling gaskets wouldnt be a bad idea i just want to see if anyones used these

A long time ago someone told me to soak the paper/felt (whatever they are) type of gaskets in water so they expand. I guess when you bolt them on they seal better. Not sure if that really works or not.

thoes look almost identical to the ones we use on the diesels, and work great, also if you are going to completely pull the header, put a straight edge on the flange and make sure its flat, the double gasket i was using were the grafite ones...

thats why i left the manifolds an just opened the y pipe
