Can't you buy them used? I went on eBay but it only shows brand new ones, and theres no way I'm spending $350+

There was a used cortex 3950 for a buy it now of $299 last week. You just have to keep watching every day until the right day approaches.

You can but be careful with used ones. If they didn't return the vehicle they were using it on to stock the tuner will be locked and the only way to use it will be to pay Superchips to unlock it. They can only be used to tune one vehicle at a time and it locks itself to that vehicle's VIN number.

If you find one that is locked, keep in mind that it is $100 to unlock it. So, sometimes you will find someone selling one for $150 that is locked, you pay an additional $100 to get it unlocked and you only paid $250 for a tuner that works.

So even if it is locked it would probably be still cheaper than buying a new one?

As long as you find it at more than $100 below cost, then yes. Once you install the software and update the programmer, you have the option to purchase an unlock through the update program.

Normally you can find someone that has a locked one that they just want to get rid of cheap because they dont want to deal with it. Its really simple though. If you get the programmer and the USB cable, just download the update program from superchips.com, update the programmer, and when its finished updating it will give you an option to unlock the programmer for $100.

Just make sure you know why the programmer is locked though. Being the programmers remember VIN numbers and everything, I would sure hate to buy one that is stolen, and then get caught with trying to unlock it. Normally, the case is the owner took their car to the dealer and they flashed the PCM without their knowledge, and now they cant use thier superchips. Its very important to always return your vehical to stock before taking it in for service for this reason.
