Default DIY Step-by-Step. Installing a K&N Air Filter.

Installing a K&N Air Filter in to Your Stock 2005 Dakota & Others.

Locate your Stock Air Intake and Hoses.

Disconnect the connected Hose and Air Intake Tube.

Locate the 4 Clips that are Holding the Top of the Air Intake On and Unclip them.

With the 4 Clips Disconnected now you can remove the Top Part of the Air Intake.

Along with the K&N Air Filter came a supplied Foam/Rubber Stick on Gasket. Stick this to the Inside the of Top Part of the Air Intake.

With the Top of the Air Intake Off you can now Remove the Old Stock Air Filter and Set it aside for safe keeping.

With the Stock Filter out let's compare the 2 Air Filters. Stock Filter on Left, The K&N Filter on the Right.

Before replacing our Air Filter, Lets take a look at the Stock Air Intake and see how it works. You can see that it gets it's cooler air from outside the Engine Compartment.

Now Insert the New K&N Air Filter in to the Stock Air Box. The New K&N Air Filter should Only Fit 1 Way, See the 3 Tabs on the Filter? Those Fit in to where the Clips for the Top Part are located so this is simple.

Now you can put the Top back on making sure to push it back so that it hooks in nice and tight.

Now Connect the Hose and Tighten down the Air Tube.

Also supplied with the K&N Air Filter was a Do Not Discard Sticker. Go ahead and stick this on to your Air Box.

Now it's time to Stand Back and Look at the Job we've done together.

K&N Air Filter Box Information.

And there you have it,... A Step-by-Step on how to install a K&N Air Filter In to your Stock Dakota.
Hope this someday helps someone.

Take Care & Good Luck.

I have an 01 5.9 magnum when I was about to change the air filter on, I noticed the top didn't look right, or seated rather. Then, OH NO !! The 4 tabs that hold the back down were broken !! So, now I need to replace it. I'm thinking the K&N, my work partner told me on his he lost 1 to 2 mpg....... Is that what you noticed ?? I got to do something soon, right now I have the Ky fix applied !!!
