Default SVC FWD light. What does it mean?

Sometimes this light stays on a few seconds longer than other lights(08, V8). Normal? What is it trying to say? I do know this. When in 4WD mode all 4 wheels do NOT lock up. Got stuck a few times and could see only one tire spinning.

Service Four-Wheel Drive. Im guessing if something was triggering the light, the light would stay on or flash constantly and not turn off. Are you under warranty still?

I looked at it in my 05 this morning. After the engine starts, the light stays on for about 3 seconds and shuts off.

Looks like normal then. But the fact that all 4 wheels do not lock up in 4WD is bothering me. You would not know it unless you are actually looking at them.

all four do not lock up unless you have LSD differential I believe.

I have the LSD in mine. When I put it in 4wd all four tires spin for a fact. Isnt the point of having 4wd to have all 4 wheels lock? Look in your glove box and it will tell you all the info on your rear differential. It should say the gear ratio and if you have the LSD is should say something like "anti-slip diff"

As far as I am concerned if one wheel is allowed to spin while others just sit there you don't have 4WD. I should not have to order an option to have all wheels lock up. What is puzzling is that I definitely do have 4WD when driving on snow. I can feel the extra grip. Only when I get stuck I see wheels spinning.

4 wheel lock is locking the front and rear diffs together for a 50 -50 power split between front and rear. unless you have a limited slip in the rear, you'll never have all four tires spinning at the same time. Open diffs. Power will be transfered from side to side. Front passenger wheel spins, rear driver spins, and so on. Get ARB air lockers then you'll see a rear "4x4"

Thanks for the info whistle pig, I never knew that. Its kind of a rip off for 4wd without a limited slip diff then IMO.

Did you confirm what diff you have Dakotaagain?
