Default What wire to tap for power for radar detector in overhead console?

Hey everyone, just got a 05 Dakota Quad.

I want to hard wire my radar detector and was looking for a wire to tap for power off my overhead console off the trip computer. I pulled the harness and used a circut tester but I couldn't find one that was hot with the ignition on. Anyone have a wiring diagram to figure out which one to tap? I'd rather not pull the a-pillar and then find a wire underneath the dash if I can avoid that.

Thanks!

Pulling the piller is easy, two bolts under the two caps on it. and it just pops out.
and you could tap into the 12v out let in the center console.

From what i remember when i was inside mine is there are 4 wires. I am pretty sure the positive is the red and the negative is the black. I do not have a console up top so i assume the other 2 are for sensors or go to the computer.

When I hardwired my valentine one I just got the flat phone cord, ran the wire from the power outlet under the radio, through the glovebox, up the grove in the door jam that is covered with rubber all the way up until the head liner, pushed it in around the pillar, and then ran it along the top of the windshield to the middle. I wanted to be able to remove it and leave the interior wiring alone.

Yah just ended up tapping off the cig lighter. Had to run wires out from there to the headliner for the bluetooth mic anyways.

Thanks for the help with this. I was just being too lazy.

So all that being said....how difficult is it to take the dash off enough to run wires back there? I want to hard wire a gps since i can't get a double din.

Between the pillar and the dash, there's enough room and the pillar is flexible enough that you can fish a wire through. The interface where the pillar and the dash meet there's even a small gap where the wire can sit without being pinched You shouldnt have to remove anything... and make sure you zip tie the wire so it doesnt fall onto your feet while driving.
