Default Need Insurance Advice

Got a call from my insurance company today. They are not going to total my truck after I got angry and called them. They have authorized $6,222.79 in repairs and if I need more the body shop just has to call them. My question is this, the body shop told me they could fix it for under $4k; should I have the insurance company send me the check or the body guys?? My fear is that they will keep that $2.2k and hide it in the paperwork. I was thinking of holding the check ANC not telling them what was authorized until the work is done. I need a new front bumper and support, new hood, grille and radiator right off the bat...we're unsure what else yet. You guys have any thoughts on this or advice to share??? Thanks!!

depends on your insurance company and i dont think any of them actually send the check to the person anymore... i had state farm once before and when i wrecked my ford ranger they sent a check to the body shop after i paid my portion of the deductible for what was left on the bill, i just paid them by buying parts and then they subtracted it... think i ended up buying a set of headlights off ebay for like 50$ and they took that from what the OEM cost was which was almost 300$ so i got off good for it

but mostly the body shop pays for it and they send the bill to your insurance and then they reimburst them back, i dont think they ever know how much exactly your insurance authorizes so shouldn't have to worry about the xtra 2k being taken... atleast thats how it was handled in my exp, it may be different on where ur at

My last insurance claim, the check was sent straight to me. I did not have the repairs made, as the check was for more than I could get for trading the old truck in. So if they will mail it to you, let them. Then it is upgrade time, as long as they don't find anything else majorly wrong.

x2... or is x3 They will send it too you, they cant deny it from ya either... just get the quote done and then you choose what to do. Its your prerogative as to what you will do with it. You dont have to fix it at all if you choose not too. They may give ya a rough time, but like i said its not law or fraud. You have to right to fix it yourself the way you want to.

Ok sweet. I got off the phone with the body shop and I told him to send me the initial findings and what not. So i should have that tonight. 6.2k seems like a lot more money than will be required to fix it. I might have to get myself a ram air hood!

Yes, the auto body guy knows how much they authorized because the adjuster sent him that paperwork as well. When I mentioned, hey, you said you could do it for $4k or less, he was like yea, but there may be hidden damage. Already trying to be shady with me. I'll give him all 6.2k but I better have some badass **** on it.

I had my ride fixed about six months back (crunched up driver side door). I'm with Allied and I received the check in hand from them. The body guy did get a call from my adjuster and a copy of the paper work. Was hoping to come out $500 ahead w/o having to pay deductible, but my the time they body guy put the door hinges on the quote (which weren't on the original quote from him) I ended up only coming out $50 ahead.

Good Luck man!

Well I got my Esitmate this evening. It's pretty ridiculous in some areas, so that's good for me. Grill - $400 + $42 labor ... $150 for an aftermarket one or $100 for an already painted one off a wrecked dakota. Stuff like that. They also have almost $3k going to my windshield, doors and fenders...which weren't touched or harmed in any way... I have no idea wtf they were looking at.

Just FYI I have a stock hood no scratches here. Probly cheaper than a new OEM one. Mine is silver.

I would get the check sent to you for sure. But be very carefull on what you settle for. I've seen them undercut when it comes to giving the check to the customer versus giving to the body shop. Be damb sure what you get from them is what you can realisticly get it fixed for. If it's sent to the body shop directly you know it will be fixed 100 percent and you have a truck you can drive again. Good luck
