Tranny troubles
Hi all.
I'm looking for some help in the way of idea's i guess.
I bought a 2005 Dodge dakota from a dodge dealer ship 4 months ago. I drove the truck 650 km stayed at a hotel went out the next morning and suddenly it was shifting very hard from first to second. I was freaked just paid like 13 grand for it and I knew it was the tranny. Took it to the dodge dealer in this town they tore into it and came back and said they speed sensor was messed but that there was a problem with the tranny and it was ok the damage was already done. I drove it home took it to the dodge dealer where i bought it and they were like nope no problem.. i showed them the reciept from the other dealer ship saying there was a problem they still said no problem.
First place said clutch volume index between od/2 was high these guys said no it wasn't.
I have a month and 10 days left on my power train warranty and i don't know what to do to convince these guys they need to do the work.
anyone have any idea how i should attack this problem ?
i took it to a third shop as well and they said it was the tranny as well BUT theres no codes no bullitens directly pointing to the problem just the wonky shifts.
thanks

For some reason and I can think of several dealers somehow believe that if codes don't show a problem then there is simply no problem. If they can ride that horse to warranty over day then all of the sudden they find the problem for some of your hard earned paycheck. Screw the code thing and get them to fix it by taking any other Dakota on the lot for a ride and show them that indeed you’re Dak has a problem and your lack of codes don't mean crap.
Just mention the better business bureau. Nobody likes a bad rating. I had a dealer tell me that my transmission was a wear and tear item?! And my warrenty was still in effect. Have you tried asking for the manager? Or even better trying tracking down the regional manager for all the dealers in your area. If your talking to the service writter that will get you no-where real quick. They make a comission off of cash deals. They dont make any money doing warrenty work. I noticed this when the economy went downhill. They start making BS reasons why they cant do the warrenty work.
Thanks all for your prompt response.
Not much has helped so far I havn't been able to track down the regional manage but yes it was the service writers i was dealing with and noticed this about the cash deals as well, just couldn't figure out how to get around them.
There covering it though is whats bothering me. I ll take it in and its like ridding a bull when it shifts , jumps back than forward.. They ll relearn the tranny and give it back to me and be like what i didn't notice it shifting funny.
Theres apparenly no lemon law here where i live either which doesn't help.
I was looking at something that told me I could contact the ministry of government services though apparently theres a set of laws called the Consumer protection act that I might have to look into.
Thanks again guys
