Default tie rod end help

saw on here somewhere that the tie rod ends could be moved from under the spindle mount to the top side of the mount when a lift is installed to correct the sever angle. If this is true can someone give me some more info on this proceedure? such as what size to drill the hole and since the tie rod end is tappered how is that adapted?

You need to get the proper size reamer.

Not something I myself would do. Tie rod ends are cheap.

just do what i did and get some aftermarket deep shaft female heims joints with the proper thread pitch. and drill the spindle so the whole is not tapered and install with new heims and bolt on top instead of bottom. no more angle problems and heims last longer and are smoother.

grr. i knew you would ask for one. just my broke luck i dont have anything. lemme ask around to see if anyone i know has anything to take a pic with.

pretty much all your doing is unbolting the tie rod (dont even have to jack the truck up.) unthread the old tie rod off the shaft. drill your spindle open so the hole is no longer tapered. and get the right size bolt for the hole. then buy a female heims joint rod end with the appropriate thread and length (with a jam nut of course) and rethread on steering shaft than set the heims on top of the knuckle instead of underneath, and bolt down. tah dah!

i dont have the thread pitch of our shafts handy. i just dug around in my box of suspensions goodies and found 2 heims. if anyone knows the thread pitch then youll be able to buy a pair of heims online. i would get a misalignment spacer also. adds like 13 degrees of travel.

something like this....

are these gonna be as strong or stronger than the factory ends and dont they make those type with the bolt already attached like a normal tie rod end? and what is the misalignment spacer and where would i get one of those. for the record, i am fairly mechanicly inclined but have never messed with steering components much.
P.S. thanks for your help

i dont know the exact comparison. but heims load ratings are somewhere in the 10,000 lbs area. and you have to supply your own bolt. it runs through the whole thing. it would actually be a nut and bolt you would need.

the one on the bottom is with the misalignment spacers. it adds extra degrees of travel.

Do they make a boot cover for these? Anyone know if they are grease-able?

nope. you dont need boots and they dont need grease. some of them have zerks but its pointless. the pivot pall is teflon lined and will last 3-4x times longer than our balljoints. and when they wear out. they are so cheap you just unthread it and install new one.
