Default Brake Controllers

I did some searching but didn't find much on everyone's preference for a brake controller.

I don't do a lot of towing, but I have and expect to occasionally, and want to be set up for trailer brakes in case it's necessary. I have a factory tow package and still in the bag the harness adapter for a controller so wiring this up should be a piece of cake.

My question is, what are you all going with? There seems to be a broad price range in controllers so I'm not sure what to go with. I'd like to stay around $100 or less, but don't want to get something that isn't any good.

We know the limits of these trucks, and I don't expect to tow anything with more than two axles, so a controller that can handle 4 brakes would be plenty.

Just looking to see what others have purchased.

I have had 2 different brake controllers and the one that I recommend is Tekonsha Brake Controller – 90195 great information read out and super easy to install http://www.etrailer.com/Brake-Contro...sha/90195.html

I have a Tekonsha Prodigy for my truck. I have extra pockets for my dads and brothers truck. Works fine and easy to set up. See the picture of where I have the pocket mounted. I put it right above the cupholders next to the 4x4 switch. Without the controller in it, it does not stick out past the edge of the dash.

Im using a Discovery by Curt, Curt is a big name in hitches and towing, they have a Lifetime warranty on the discovery, and I think I caught it on sale somewhere for 49.99 with free shipping (I think there was a minimum order amount to get free shipping, but I ordered my hitch/ harness/Brake control/7 blade plug all at the same time)

I pull a camper that has a dry weight of 4000LB, and it weighs up to 6200 with full tanks and loaded with food etc, the Discovery stops it fine, has a digital read out, and an E-brake slide so you can brake the trailer without braking the truck.

I think it has to be up there as a "most bang for your buck controller", I see them on sale all the time for under 60. Oh, and it is a timed controller which is nice.

I like the features on this and the price is close to what I wanted to spend. The Prodigy seems to be nice too. I think I'll have a hard time decided which one I'd rather have, but I could see myself spending the extra $40 on the P3 to get the extras.

I ended up springing for the P3. I mounted mine the same place as you jonhankel, but I decided to go a little further and hide the wiring as well. I think it turned out nicely. I'm hoping to try it out this week-end. I'm towing a friend of mine's RX-7 and will be using a trailer with brakes, hopefully they're electric or hydraulic so I can try it out.

Here's a few pics:
