I did the same thing a few years ago in the gills of on my Corvette, the panels where the gills are come off and I used double sided tape on the inside of the panel then put another layer of tape over top of it and it hasnt budged in over 3 years....but would recommend something stronger then double sided tape and use something like Eric suggested for your project since the grill on the truck is getting pushed on alot harder by the wind. I like the look and have gotten alot of positive comments about it from other Corvette owners. The best part is it didnt cost alot of money or alot of time.

yeah i know that it comes out... i was thinking about taking it out and cutting the fins out of the middle (leaving a frame that still attatches to the grill) and sandwiching the grill between that and the chrome part

If you dont want to do a cutout for the hood release latch, just tie a piece of wire or use a wire hanger and run it down the center of the grill to a loop that can be reached between the grille and the bumper. If you need pictures of mine LMK. It sometimes gets a little tricky to get the hood open, but once you fine the loop with your finger it just needs a little pull.

Thats a good looking grille you made Eric. Is that gutter guard stuff stainless?

Be careful with with that hood release, cut galvanized steel is rather sharp.
