Default Front shocks/struts/whatever

OK, I have searched and searched, read a lot of posts about people replacing them, but cannot find pics, good descriptions, etc....i have an 05 CC 4x4, do I have front struts or shocks? Can I replace the shocks without having to replace the entire strut assy? Is it as easy as replacing a regular shock? Sorry for starting a thread for a topic that has probably been beat to death, but I just cannot find the answer I need.....if someone could just point me to the post I'm looking for.......

We have front struts. Dakkkota is correct, choices are Monroe, Rancho, or OEM. Rancho is a little stiffer than the Monroes, OEM's are garbage.

Do a search for 'front struts' (upper right hand side), and you will get plenty of threads to read. Happy reading.

I have the Rancho's and would highly recommend them. Cost me just under $300 for the front struts and rear shocks set, shipped.

Dakkkota what kind of shop? I usually do all the work I can myself for fear of being taken ...like my cat back system, did it all myself and now I have, like, 6 muffler clamps holding it all together because I don't have a welder and I don't know where to take it to just have it welded up without them trying to tell me i need a new this or that....and I take it I would need a coil spring compressor to change the front shock?

KYB are available for the rear. But not the front...yet.

I have 35000 on Ranchos. They have been great.

The process can be a real b!tch. Yes you need spring compressors. You will have to separate a ball joint and tie-rod link to remove the strut assembly. The lower strut assembly bolt is often rusted in place and difficult to remove even with an impact and big hammer. And the strut retaining nut on the top of the assembly can be easily damaged without the correct (specialized) tool. You might get it with a socket and impact....or you might strip the nut and have to cut it out. Have fun
