Default '06 headlight removal

Okay, I saw an old post that gave general info on headlight assembly removal. I just got a pair of new Halo/LED projector headlights that I wanted to install. Went out and looked at the truck. I have access to 2 screws under weatherstripping near the grill. I'm not sure how to get to the other(s) under the fender. It seems like I'll have to remove the splash/mud guard in the wheel well and access up through there. Anyone else done this and found the best way?

I have done this. The job kinda sucks. You have to reach under and up. to get to the rear nuts holding them on.

Seems easier if you have a lift so you can stand and do it. Laying on the ground really brings on the suck.

That instruction is almost worthless. Two from the front, but it makes no mention of the one you need to take out from the back, or is it two from the back? I just hope I never have to do it again....

Aren't there better instructions somewhere?

Remove the three screws (3) that secure the
inboard and lower mounts of the front lamp unit (1)
to the front fender headlamp bracket (4).
Um it calls out all 3, one on the inboard side and two on the lower...

My headlamps have 3 screws to remove them, and one alignment screw. There are 2 that the grill covers up, and one screw between the bumper cover and the light. Use a torx bit to remove all 3. The housing will be loose with all 3 removed but still attached to the truck. Grasp the headlight firmly, and pull straight out HARD. It takes a lot of force. You need to pull a ball on the back of the headlight out of the mounting socket on the truck.

This is the guide I used to remove my headlight. Worked for me and I never needed to get under the truck. All can be done from on top with the hood open. Good info Billy.

how did you get to that "one screw between the bumper cover and the light"? via the wheel well? or under hood..removing battery, battery housing, plus multiple other bits/pieces attached to bumper?

You should be able to get to it right from the front. The gap between my headlight and bumper is about 3/8" so my extention and torx bit fit right through it.
