Thanks for taking the time and effort to take the pics Canadian Dakota. While googling Nite Shade I had read in some threads that as long as the reflectors shined light back that it would be legal. If no one in this thread has been pulled over for them I think that may be b.s. but I will call my d.o.t. tomorrow or ask my friend who is a former law enforcement officer.

any of you guys have pics at night of these? it would be nice to see a side by side comparison of the nite shaded ones -vs- regular lenses with the lights on, then brakes and then one with the lights off but shining a light on them to see how the reflectors are affected. I think I'll do that with one of my Lund covers on and one off, just to see what the difference is.

The former law enforcement person I know told me that you really are not supposed to have any kind of tint on them or change the color of them, though she said they never specifically look for that to pull you over.

They only use it as an excuse to pull you over if they wanted to pull you over to begin with, and they would find a different excuse anyways if they did not use the tinted tail lamps as an excuse... lol

I also sent an email to the Florida High Way Patrol asking about it. Hopefully they will respond soon. I am going to do it this weekend anyways. If FHP says not to tint them, I still will and then I will just make my girlfriend drive home from the bar lol

lol here is what the Florida Highway Patrol sent me in response to my email asking about tinting the tail lights.

Dear Mr. xxxx,

Thank you for your recent email. Florida State Statute (F.S.S.) states, “Any vehicle may be equipped and, when required under this chapter, shall be equipped with a stop lamp or lamps on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red or amber light, visible from a distance of not less than 300 feet to the rear in normal sunlight, and which shall be actuated upon application of the service (foot) brake, and which may but need not be incorporated with one or more other rear lamps. An object, material, or covering that alters the stop lamp's visibility from 300 feet to the rear in normal sunlight may not be placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied over a stop lamp.”

Simply put, F.S.S. does not allow the use of tinted taillight covers.

For your convenience, we have included an extract of the F.S.S. that addresses your concern. Additionally, we have provided a link to the web site containing the full F.S.S. for your review.

316.234 Signal lamps and signal devices.--

(1) Any vehicle may be equipped and, when required under this chapter, shall be equipped with a stop lamp or lamps on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red or amber light, visible from a distance of not less than 300 feet to the rear in normal sunlight, and which shall be actuated upon application of the service (foot) brake, and which may but need not be incorporated with one or more other rear lamps. An object, material, or covering that alters the stop lamp's visibility from 300 feet to the rear in normal sunlight may not be placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied over a stop lamp.

That's not true, if you have LED lamps (me) and tinted tails (also me) that are still showing light from 300 feet you are ok... not to say that the stock bulbs DON'T show that far, I just know mine sure do.

lol all i did was copy and paste the email the FSS sent me! I did not add or subtract any content. I disregarded it anyways and just put two very light coats on my third brake light and it looks pretty good. Now I am trying to work up the nerve to do the tail lights. They are in such good condition and look brand new, I would really hate to mess them up! I dont want black black just a little darker to fit in more with the scheme of my truck.
