Default transmission computer self learning?

pretty much says it all.

Are the engine and transmission control modules self learning on the dakota? Meaning, if I replace the sensors and reset the computer, will they re-learn?

Per my other post, need to replace VSS's (yeah, both) but the ecu is throwing codes for sensors that don't exist, so I need to reset the computers.

ugh....should just push this thing off a cliff.

I am not an expert on this topic by any means,

But wouldn't the Engine and Trans Computers be the same control unit? sending info to Sensers on the engine and trans so they work together?

The Computer should find the new sensors once installed. and that should hopefully clear the codes it's throwing at you, as well you will most likey have to flash the computer to clear the codes (reset)

That's (kinda) what I meant....just wanted to verify that the computer will self reset if I pull the power, and set itself back to default.

The dealer is saying that the computer needs to be "reprogrammed" for $200. I'm thinking it just needs to be reset, at the cost of resetting my clock and radio stations. Wait 'till you see the mile long list of codes this thing is throwing

If you disconnect the ground wire so that the computer resets, you probably won't have to reset the readi. It must have a small battery built in. I left mine disconnected for a whole day and didn't have to reset the clock or stations.

When I got my tranny valve body installed I had some engine shudder so I asked around about what to do. If you call some tranny shops some of them will have the ability to give your tranny a 'quick learn'. It is like a reprogram but cheaper and better. They are supposedly only around $50.
