I have a 3.7 2wd raider. I notice that there is a complete hitch under the truck that mounts into the frame. However, there is no place for a receiver. The hitch mounts to the bumper and under the ball???? Is this a legit towing kit and what is the rating?

 

ive noticed this on the 08 as well and on the black pad it says max weight is 2000lbs now is it legit IDK but it is attached to the frame ans has eyelets for the catch hooks my guess is check with your local D.O.T.

 

My 05 Dakota has a bar that is part of the frame and is feed into the bumper. I purchased a hitch for my truck and it attache's to this bar and uses a bolt through the bumper so i do not see why you cannot pull full weight on the bumper if the bar going into the bumper like mine did.

Weird thing is i cannot find the hitch style I bought. Wonder if the did a recall on them.

Well it seams that every Dakota I see has a frame to frame Hitch that sticks below the bumper. Mine is all hidden up under the bumper besides the square receiver part.

In the photo below all I had to purchase was the part in the red square.
