Unhappy Bad A/C Smell?

Hi:

I own a 2010 and now when I turn the A/C on every mornings it spells a bad smell for a few seconds, then the smell is gone.
I really don't know what could it be, its working well, cools very well.
Just bad smell at mornings.

What could it be? and how I can fixed! May I have to take it to the warranty?

Thanks

Victor

Boricua!! do you have it that it pulls air from the outside or you have on recycle? Maybe you have it pulling air from the outside and it's picking up "los olores del barrio" LOL.....

If its a musty/moldy smell, it could be water sitting in the condenser and not draining. Look under the truck at where the drain tube is to be sure nothing is plugging it like leaves.

My truck did this last year really bad, so I would run the A/C all the time and a couple miles before home I would run the heat to dry out everything. I havent encountered the problem this summer and I use the A/C daily without turning on the heat before reaching my destination.

Do you normally park it outside? Most common reason for this is rotton leaves/plant matter near where the air intake is at.

When did this start? Is it getting worse? If so, how much worse is it getting in a small period of time?

I had a 2001 SantaFe that had built in bait for mice (KIDS WHO MADE LOTS O CRUMBS!)

Hyundai did not do a good job of screening off the air intake to the AC...
I caught 7 mice (two in one trap once!) in that car.

In addition to the 7 mice, I had to drop the fan TWICE to get out a mutilated mouse.
I was in the car the first time it happened..turned on the AC to max, sounded like a blender turned on Did not know what it was until the next summer day.
It smelled like vomit when I turned on the AC...dropped down the fan motor and it looked like "Spin-Art", and a mouse paw fell out

Second time I just smelled it and knew what to do

Unless it has gotten worse (I mean REALLY BAD) in a short period of time, it is probably a build up of leaves/grass/etc that is rotting OR a clogged evap drain that is letting the water stand and mold over.....

My 2 cents...

Its like mold, but it goes away in a few seconds.
I'm using the A/C in recycle mode all the time, does it affect?

Red face

Hi:

Now that the hurricaine Earl has pass away, I check the drain of the a/c,
you know what! its incredible this truck has no drain of the a/c condenser!
I stay almost 1/2 an hour looking for it, I know it must be at the firewall but is not.
I look inside the truck (cabin) to see if there's something but not.
Well at least I DON'T FIND IT! if someone can give an idea where to find it I will appreciate. Remember is a 2010, may be is different I guess.

Thanks for your help.

Victor
