Tailight Painting
So I decided to get a HVPL paint gun. The first time I painted them I ajusted the gun without the trigger being pressed (big mistake). Then I painted them a second time and added to much black into the clear so they got dark to fast and barely and light went through the tail lights. Now I am on the third time and decided to do something different. On the Raider the lights are clear but in the center of the tailer is a red rectangle out line where the brake light show and the light rectangle where the reverse lights show. I i masked those areas and sprayed the reset of the light black (They are drying now) the piece that are masked are going to be smoked (medium smoke color). Then I am going to clear the lights and wet sand them smooth and reinstall on the truck.
OK now the pro and cons of using a paint gun.
Pros
Better quality paint and clears
Much Much faster then a rattle can
It uses alot less paint and covers more
If you are pretty good you can get only a little onrange peel so wet sanding is easy.
Cons
Big learning curve

Yep, HVLP guns take some time to get down. the nice thing about HVLP is the fact that you dont need a huge compressor to run one. I used to have a few different guns, and the HVLPs were usually a little more temperamental with spray patterns if they werent cleaned right.
Primer guns also will work for "fogging" but I never could figure it out. My dad could do it.

The white part of the taillights will be smoked (mixing jet black into clear) Then once the tails are cured they will be wet sanded smooth and polished and waxed

right. it helps keep sand and grit from getting on your sponge/wash mitt and scratching your paint. Swirls are small scratches, and the 2 bucket method with grit guards has greatly reduced them for me.
If you have a dark colored vehicle, or was different people cars... they are a must have, in my book.
