Default Dodge Dakota HELP!!!!

Hi All,

I have a 2006 V.6 Dodge Dakota. I just recently had a new exhaust and cold air intake installed hoping to get some better gas millage. I have noticed though that my milage has dropped about 2-3 miles per gallon. I was seeing if my idea of the exhaust and intake lowering raising my gas milage was inaccurate?

Also, I have been looking online for ECU chips that should help me out but i am not sure if it can cause issues for my truck or possibly make my engine run hard. Here is a link to a ECU chip that i found. please tell me what you think. Thanks for the help.

I think that your mpgs went down because you are leaning too hard on the accelerator to hear the cai and the exhaust. lol. About that chip, i heard of them but i don't know anything or know about anyone using them. I think someone on here was going to get one to try it but i don't if he did. My suggestion is for you to get a tunner, Superchips tunner is very popular around here. Maybe some of the guys running a SCT will come in and help you better. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the response.

I just didn't and i guess still don't know if there was anything i was supposed to do after my CAI and exhaust were installed to the computer. And i know i have for sure been as you called it, "leaning too hard on the accelerator" ha ha, but at first its a little hard not to. I will look into the tuner, thanks again

Are you using the overhead to determine gas mileage? Because those things can be way off, expecially after mods. Best to do it by hand using the trip to keep track of your miles.
If you're still losing mileage, you can try doing a hard reset on the pcm. Remove the positive battery cable and ground it, then reattach it to the battery. The truck will take a few hundred miles to learn your driving style, but then you should see better results.
For tuners, I would only recommend Superchips unless you're going to do more mods. SCT is better if you plan on boosting or doing internal engine work. The tuners aren't the cheapest, but they will yeild the best results. You're not going to gain 60hp or 5mpg with any chip, especially a $69 one.

Update: sorry, I didn't see you had the v6. Superchips doesn't support that. I still wouldn't recommend that chip though.

Have you looked at the installation instructions for the "chip" in the link? It is "connected via 2 wires that plug into the IAT sensor". The picture shows a chip, but it's just a resistor. Do a search on here for "power wire" you can do this yourself for about $2.00. There are various schools of thought as to the effectivness of this mod though. and...............Welcome to the forum! oh and....

Thanks for the advise, remove the positive battery cable as soon as i get home. How long should i leave it removed before putting it back onto the battery?

There are two ways, either take it off and leave it disconnected for 2-3 hours (I just left mine off overnight) or if you take it off and ground it, you can put it right back on.

Personally, I leave the key in the ON position, disconnect the postive terminal and then turn the key to the start position for a few seconds to "drain" the system as much as possible. I then ground the cable to the alternator (its where the cable reaches) for a second, and reconnect it after that. You are technically "shorting out" the system, so thats why I like to drain the power before just grounding the terminal.

just disconnect the battery over night and hook it up in the morning and it'll be all squared away!
